Joe Root smashed his first-ever Test century on Australian soil, ending a long 12-year, 30-innings wait since debuting in the Ashes.
Root absorbed early pressure in Brisbane and anchored England’s innings with a brilliant 181-ball ton.
This knock is Root’s 40th Test century, making him the fourth-highest century scorer in Test cricket history.
With this milestone, Root surpassed Kumar Sangakkara (39 centuries) to claim the fourth spot outright.
Root is now just one century away from equalling Ricky Ponting’s tally (41) and moving closer to the top three in the all-time list.
His previous close calls in Australia-scores of 89 (2021), 87 (2013), and 83 (2017)-make this century even more special for the England star.
