Mitchell Starc shocked fans and teammates by announcing his retirement from T20 cricket without prior notice.
Australian T20I captain Mitchell Marsh got to know about Starc’s decision from Instagram, not directly from him.
In an interview, Starc admitted he should have personally informed Marsh and apologized, saying he “felt bad” for not doing so.
Starc confirmed he will now only play ODIs and Test cricket, prioritizing Australia’s 2027 ODI World Cup campaign and red-ball cricket.
Starc revealed he only informed coach Andrew McDonald (“Ronnie”) and staff, without discussing or seeking input.
Having already won two ODI World Cups (2015 & 2023), Starc aims to create history by playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup and possibly challenging Glenn McGrath’s record as the greatest World Cup bowler.
