Is Pakistan introducing new-format based contracts? Details inside

Cricket

A new contract system might be introduced soon, and this could change how players are rewarded in the future.

The PCB has overhauled central contracts, replacing player categories with a data-driven system that cuts human selectors’ role by a big margin and separates formats more clearly.

Player categories are gone, and now, players get “format track” contracts: Test (A), Test/ODI (AB), white-ball (BC), and T20 (D). T20 contracts offer more freedom for leagues, while Test contracts have the most restrictions.

Despite promising transparency, PCB won’t reveal which contract track a player has, or how many are in each track, leaving fans unsure how players are viewed or selected.

PCB will assign contracts based on team needs and formats, but promised Test specialists will be paid well and won’t lose out financially.

A player’s contract category now depends mainly on recent performance and consistency.

Will this new format-based system improve teams or spark new selection debates? We’ll find out soon.
