10. Kyle Mayers
Kyle Mayers has had a memorable debut this year against Bangladesh in February. He helped West Indies chase a target of 395 runs in the fourth innings of a game after he made 210 runs off 310 balls. It became the highest successful chase in Asia, and his score became the second-highest by a West Indian.
9. Ollie Robinson
Ollie Robinson is the joint-highest wicket-taker for England in 2021. He has picked 35 wickets in seven matches at an average of 20.54. Robinson made his Test debut against New Zealand at Lord’s on June 2.
8. James Anderson
His best performance happened against India during the home series. He picked 15 wickets in four matches at an average of 24.67. In the ongoing Ashes, England didn’t pick him up in the first Test but included him in the second game. He managed to pick three wickets in total in that game.
7. Marnus Labuschagne
Marnus Labuschagne is the number one batter in ICC Rankings currently with 912 rating points. Labuschagne has had a great Test career ever since he replaced Steven Smith in the second Ashes Test of 2019. He made 525 runs in four matches at an average of 75. His tally contains two centuries and four half-centuries.
6. Axar Patel
Axar Patel has had one of the standout performances this year. Patel made his debut on February 13 against England. Since then, he went on to pick 36 wickets in five matches including five fifers. Patel picked two wickets in the first innings and picked a five-wicket haul in the second innings.
5. Rohit Sharma
During India’s tour of England, Rohit made 127 runs in the second innings to put a target of 367 runs for England to win the match. England could make only 210 runs and gave India a lead of 2-1 in the series. Rohit was India’s leading run-scorer on that tour as he made 368 runs in four matches at an average of 52.57.
4. Dimuth Karunaratne
His highest score of 244 runs came against Bangladesh during the first Test of Bangladesh’s tour to Sri Lanka. He, along with Dhananjaya de Silva crafted a partnership of 345 runs for the fourth wicket. This was not only his highest score, but it was also the highest individual score by a Sri Lankan batter since 2014.
3. Shaheen Afridi
Shaheen Afridi, who is the number three bowler in ICC Rankings also had a pretty great year. He has taken 47 wickets in nine matches at an average of 17.06 and has picked five-wicket hauls thrice. He has picked the second-most number of wickets in Test cricket this year.
2. Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin has picked most wickets in 2021. He has taken 52 wickets in eight matches at an average of 16.23. Ashwin has taken three fifers in Test cricket in 2021. During the first Test against New Zealand, he became the third-highest wicket-taker for India in Test cricket surpassing Harbhajan Singh.
1. Joe Root
Root has made six centuries this year, including the highest score of 228 runs that came against Sri Lanka in the very first Test of the year. When England came to India in February, Root made 218 runs in the first Test and helped the team win the match by 227 runs.
