RCB’s homeground M. Chinnaswamy stadium ‘BANNED’?

The ICC officially ruled out Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium as a venue for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup starting September 30, 2025.

The decision follows the June 4 stampede during RCB’s IPL title celebration outside the stadium, which killed 11 fans and raised major safety concerns.

Bengaluru Police refused permission for hosting World Cup matches at Chinnaswamy, citing the stadium’s unsafe structure and crowd management issues.

Local Tournaments Affected

Even Karnataka State Cricket Association’s domestic Maharaj Cup T20 tournament was not allowed at the venue after the tragedy.

A government inquiry declared Chinnaswamy’s infrastructure “unsafe for mass gatherings” and flagged the association’s failure to fix safety lapses within the deadline.

As a result, ICC shifted all scheduled matches (including a possible semi-final & final) to Dr. D. Y. Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai.

Greenfield Stadium (Thiruvananthapuram) was considered as a backup, but Navi Mumbai was chosen for logistical and readiness reasons.
