Harshit Rana has been selected for India’s ODI and T20 series in Australia, making him an all-format player despite criticism.
Rana is believed to be a favorite of head coach Gautam Gambhir, who mentored him during KKR’s IPL 2024 title-winning campaign.
He made his Test debut in November 2024, T20I debut in January 2025, and ODI debut shortly after, showing rapid inclusion across formats.
So far, Rana has taken 4 wickets in 2 Tests, 5 wickets in 3 T20Is (economy 10), and 10 wickets in 5 ODIs, with generally modest performances.
His selection has been widely criticized on social media, with accusations of favoritism due to his KKR connection.
Former players Aakash Chopra and R. Ashwin defended Rana, highlighting his potential, batting ability, height, fast bowling, and role in preparing for future tournaments like the ODI World Cup.
