India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has given a huge update on Shreyas Iyer’s health after his injury during the Sydney ODI.
While taking a catch, Iyer fell awkwardly and injured his ribs. He fainted soon after and was rushed to St. Vincent Hospital in Sydney.
Tests revealed a rib injury with internal bleeding and spleen laceration. He was shifted to ICU and underwent emergency surgery to stop the bleeding.
Iyer is now stable and recovering under observation. A family member and close friends are by his side at the Sydney hospital.
Surya confirmed Iyer is responsive and talking on the phone. “He’s stable, doctors are monitoring him closely,” he said in a press conference.
Iyer will stay in Sydney for at least a week. His full recovery may take around three months before he can return to competitive cricket.
