Shreyas last played a T20 International in 2023 and has yet to make a return, even after regaining his place in the ODI side.
With Tilak Varma and captain Suryakumar Yadav as strong contenders for middle-order spots, Shreyas’s selection looks doubtful.
Having previously led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL title, Iyer proved his captaincy skills, but leadership alone might not earn him a spot.
He also played well in the ICC Champions Trophy and domestic cricket, but the selectors seem to prefer younger players.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, too, is expected to miss out on the T20 squad, with selectors advising him to focus on Test cricket.
