Shubman Gill’s captaincy is in the spotlight after India’s ODI series against Afghanistan, but some still aren’t sure he’s the next great Indian captain.
A former India batter commented on Gill’s captaincy. He was supportive but also offered a word of caution.
Manoj Tiwary said Gill isn’t a natural leader yet. He believes leadership comes with time, experience, and facing challenges.
“This series went well for Gill as captain. He’s not a natural leader yet, but he’ll improve with experience. That’s why it’s important for Rohit, Virat, and KL to guide him and help him avoid their past mistakes,” he told Cricbuzz.
“When you have so many top players, captaincy pressure is less. With India’s best bowlers, you can rely on them to deliver at any time,” he added.
Despite the criticism, the former batter supports Gill. He believes the young player has what it takes to be a strong leader in the future.
Gill isn’t a finished leader yet, but these early captaincy lessons could help shape him into India’s next long-term captain.
