Shubman Gill has spoken for the first time about being dropped from India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2026, ahead of the IND vs NZ ODI series.
When asked at the pre-match press conference in Vadodara, Gill said he respects the selectors’ decision and wished the team well for the World Cup.
Gill added that he will keep giving his best for India, saying “whatever is written in my destiny no one can take from me.”
Gill averaged just 24.25 in 15 T20I innings with no fifties and a 137 strike rate, numbers that didn’t match India’s new T20 approach.
Sanju Samson’s explosive knock when Gill was injured in South Africa revived competition for the opener slot and shifted selection plans.
Gill now returns to lead India in ODIs against New Zealand, looking to reset after a tough phase and prove himself in another format.
