Shubman Gill has been named India’s ODI captain and will lead the team in the upcoming Australia series.
Rohit Sharma led India in 56 ODIs, winning 42 and losing 12, guiding the team to trophies like the 2018 & 2023 Asia Cups and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Gill is set to take India forward as a long-term leader, preparing the team for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
In 55 ODIs, Gill has scored 2,775 runs at an average of 59.04, including a double century, showing his strong credentials as captain.
The series also marks the return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to international cricket, providing senior support to Gill in his new role.
India plays ODIs on October 19 (Perth), October 23 (Adelaide), and October 25 (Sydney). A five-match T20I series follows from October 29 to November 8 with Suryakumar Yadav as captain.
