For the first time in T20 cricket history, 5 wickets were taken in 5 consecutive balls, a world record.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t famous pacers like Jasprit Bumrah or Mitchell Starc, but an Irish cricketer who achieved this milestone.
Irish all-rounder Curtis Campher took 5 wickets in 5 balls while playing for Munster Reds vs North-West Warriors in the Irish Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy.
Campher’s figures: 5 wickets for 16 runs in 2.3 overs. His spell bowled out North-West Warriors for 88 runs in 13.3 overs, chasing 189.
He picked 2 wickets in the last 2 balls of the 12th over, then returned in the 14th over to dismiss 3 batsmen in the first 3 deliveries – completing 5 in 5.
Before this, the best was Lasith Malinga’s 4 wickets in 4 balls (ODI 2007 & T20I 2019). Campher has now gone one step further with an unbreakable record.
