After the completion of the ICC Men's T20 WC, the prize money of each team has been revealed. Teams receive their money based on their number of wins, their performance throughout the tournament, and their participation.
Both teams lost in the Semi-finals, but still, South Africa earned a whopping ₹9.28 crore, and England received only ₹8.99 crore. Why the difference?
South Africa performed brilliantly in the group stage and in the Super 8 as well, not losing a single match before they got knocked out in the Semis against New Zealand. Those extra wins helped them to add bonus money to their total.
England had lost a match early in their tournament phase. Because of fewer wins on the board, their total prize money was relatively less compared to SA despite having the same exit, and they missed out on the bonus.
Each team gets a base prize money of about $225,000. Additional bonuses are given to those teams that reach the higher stages of the tournament and have the most wins.
At the end, India got the highest prize money, a staggering ₹21.5 crore, and New Zealand got ₹13.13 crore. Not just that, BCCI also announced a whopping ₹131 crore as a cash prize for Team India for winning the T20 WC and making history.
