Team India suffered a major setback ahead of the T20 World Cup as vice-captain Shubman Gill was ruled out of the ongoing series against South Africa due to injury.
Gill sustained a neck injury during the Test match against South Africa in Kolkata, which had already forced him to miss the Test and ODI series earlier.
Despite not being fully fit, Gill returned to the squad keeping the T20 World Cup in mind, but his injury has resurfaced, ruling him out again.
With only two months left for the T20 World Cup, Gill’s absence has significantly increased Team India’s concerns, especially with limited match practice remaining.
Gill has struggled in T20 cricket this year, failing to score a single half-century, which had already sparked debates over his place in the playing XI.
India’s problems have compounded further as Axar Patel has also been ruled out of the series due to illness, leaving the team short of key players.
