Wanindu Hasaranga is all but ruled out of the remainder of the T20 World Cup 2026, dealing a huge setback to Sri Lanka’s campaign.
Hasaranga bowled well in Sri Lanka’s opening match against Ireland, returning figures of 3/25 and playing a key role in the team’s bowling effort.
The leg-spinner aggravated his hamstring injury during the Ireland game, where he was visibly uncomfortable and seen stretching mid-spell.
Ahead of T20 World Cup 2026, he also underwent minor surgery for a recurring hamstring problem, raising concerns over workload and recovery.
With Hasaranga likely out, Sri Lanka are considering all-rounder Dushan Hemantha as a replacement, as permitted under ICC injury rules.
