Washington Sundar is set to undergo a fitness test on February 4 at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, just days before India begin their T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.
The India all-rounder has been recovering from a side strain he suffered during the IND vs NZ ODI on January 11, which ruled him out of the T20I series.
According to reports, the team management is willing to wait for Sundar’s fitness status and has no immediate plans to name a replacement.
India will have their first training session on February 3 and will play a warm-up match against South Africa the following day.
Tournament rules allow injury replacements even after the World Cup begins, giving India flexibility if Sundar is not fit early on.
For now, India is prepared to be patient, with the possibility of Washington Sundar joining the squad later in the T20 World Cup 2026 if cleared.
