Shivam Dube played an important role in the World Cup, which saw India lift its third T20 WC title, the only team to win the trophy back-to-back and most number of times.
After the victory, when the whole team was celebrating, Shivam Dube was nowhere to be found, and he didn't even travel with the team
He left early and decided to travel by train instead of taking a flight. He actually wanted to travel via road, but he said that the train was faster, and when he tried to book a flight, there were no available flights.
"Ghar jaake mujhe apne bachche aur apne papa se milne ki kaafi anxiety ho rahi thi... isliye main subah-subah ghar chala aaya. Wait, hi nahi ho raha tha (I was feeling anxious to meet my child and my father at home... that is why I left early in the morning. I just could not wait)," Dube said at an event.
To stay unnoticed, Dube wore a cap, mask, and long sleeves, and picked a 5:10 am train to avoid crowds. He told his wife he’d wait in the car until just before departure, then quickly board.
Shivam Dube’s decision highlights that even professional cricketers deal with real-life challenges. It’s a reminder that, at times, finding peace of mind becomes more important than anything else.
