Former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq has clarified that he didn’t suffer a heart attack and that he went to the doctor for a “routine check-up”. The 51-year-old said that the discomfort he felt was nowhere close to his heart, but his stomach after which the angioplasty surgery was conducted. Earlier, reports stated that he was admitted to the hospital after complaints of chest pain.

The Multan-born Inzamam mentioned that the surgery was done to avoid the heart from getting damaged in the future. The retired batter also said that for the time being, he’s stable and he was back after half-a-day at the hospital. Moreover, he expressed his gratitude towards the cricket fraternity and his fans around the world for their heartfelt messages for his recovery.

I went to the doctor because I felt bit of discomfort in my stomach, says Inzamam-ul-Haq

“I saw reports saying I had suffered a heart attack. I did not. I went to my doctor for a routine check-up, who said they wanted to conduct an angiography. During angiography, they noted an artery of mine was blocked, so they inserted stents to alleviate that problem. It was successful and easy, and I came back home after just 12 hours at the hospital. I feel fine,” Inzamam said in a video on his YouTube channel.

“I went to the doctor because I felt a very slight bit of discomfort. It wasn’t even close to the heart area, but the stomach. Had I delayed getting it checked out, doctors said the heart could have been damaged,” he stated.

“I want to thank everyone in Pakistan and around the world for praying for my health. I want to thank the Pakistan people, and cricketers from Pakistan and around the world who sent their well-wishes,” Inzamam added.

Inzamam remains as a key figure in Pakistan cricket even after more than one and half decade since his retirement from the highest level. He is Pakistan’s leading run-scorer in ODIs and is the only batter to have notched over 10,000 runs for the Men in Green in the 50-over format.

Inzamam also plied his trade as the chief selector of the Pakistan Cricket Board and worked as the head coach of the Afghanistan national cricket team.
