West Indian all rounder Marlon Samuels reported for suspect action: The West Indian all-rounder Marlon Samuels has been reported for bowling with a suspect bowling action during his team’s innings loss in the 1st Test against Sri Lanka in Galle.
This is the 3rd time Samuels has been reported for a suspect action. The report of the match officials expressing concern over the legality of his action has been handed over to the West Indian team, and the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Samuels will have to undergo testing within 14 days. During this period, he is allowed to bowl in international cricket pending the results of the said test.
Samuels had previously been reported in 2008 and 2013. He was first pulled up after a Test against South Africa in Durban in January 2008 and suspended from bowling at the international level. After undergoing corrective work, he was permitted to bowl again in September 2011. But a little over two years later, after a Test against India in Mumbai in November 2013, he was reported again.
Samuels rolled his arm for 27 overs in Galle in Sri Lanka’s only innings of 484, finishing with 1 for 84. His lone success came through the wicket of Dimuth Karunaratne, the opener who was caught and bowled after making a Test best 186. He was subsequently reported by Marais Erasmus and Richard Illingworth, the on-field umpires, Simon Fry, the TV umpire, and David Boon, the match referee from Australia.
Sri Lanka lead the 2-Test match series 1-0 after their emphatic victory in Galle. The 2nd Test starts at the P Sara Oval in Colombo on Thursday.
