West Indies will be hosting India in the first One Day International at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain in Trinidad on Friday, July 22. The Men in Blue would be heading into this contest oozing with confidence after registering a 2-1 series victory over England last weekend. The Caribbeans, on the other hand, have a task at hand after being blanked 0-3 by Bangladesh in the recent home ODI series.

Shikhar Dhawan will be leading India in the three-match series as regular skipper Rohit Sharma has been rested and will be back for the five T20Is. However, the visitors have received a huge setback ahead of the commencement of the ODI series as star all-rounder as well as makeshift vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja might be reportedly unavailable due to injury concerns.

With the key players including the likes of Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant rested, it would be a perfect opportunity for the emerging talents in the Indian squad to put their hands up and prove a point or two in this three-match series as the selectors eye a strong squad for next year’s ODI World Cup.

It would be a crucial three matches for players like Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda, Prasidh Krishna, etc, to make a mark for themselves and try to cement their spot in the 50-overs format. More importantly, this would be a crucial series for senior batter Shikhar Dhawan who only plays in one format as of now, and that happens to be the ODIs.

Here’s a look at how the weather will behave during the WI vs IND clash

This part of the year witnesses rainfall in the Caribbean and it might be no different during the first One Day International between India and the Windies either as rain is expected to make its presence felt in the first innings. The Indian players were forced to train indoors as their outdoor session was cancelled.

According to Accuweather, a rain forecast is predicted during the first half of the contest and there could be an hour of rain. The chances of precipitation are 42% with the temperature expected to be around 25 to 32 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, there is an 8% chance of a thunderstorm and 49% of cloud cover.

The situation is expected to be clear in the second innings with 85% humidity and a temperature between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius. Thus, with rain playing a spoilsport early on in the game, the captain that calls it right at the toss would have absolutely no hesitation in bowling first.
