West Indies vs Pakistan: Rain plays spoilsport in Dwayne Bravo’s home farewell

What was touted to be a fitting farewell to talismanic West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo turned out to be a somber affair as only three overs were bowled in the fourth and final T20I match against Pakistan. The veteran had already announced that this will be the last game on his home soil Guyana. Before the match, Bravo called for a team huddle and made his decision known to his teammates.

The four-match T20I series between West Indies and Pakistan had rain interruptions in all of the games. Only the second game had a result, which the Men In Green won and thus the series too. Torrential rain washed out the whole of the third T20I and left Pakistan and West Indies not having an ideal preparation before the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Bravo’s decision to play his last T20I match in West Indies was announced via Cricket West Indies (CWI) social media in which he said: “I just want to take this opportunity to wish one of our stalwarts. In all three formats, he has played though he retired from the other two a long time back. But Bravo is playing his final game in Maroon on the Caribbean soil. We look forward to that,” Kieron Pollard said in a video posted on Windies Cricket.

Cricket West Indies effusive in praise of Dwayne Bravo

The CWI lavished praise on the West Indian all-rounder and appreciated his contribution over the years for the team in the shortest format. After calling it quits in the other two longer formats, the veteran went to have an impact on the team as an all-rounder.

He was used more as a bowler and is the leading wicket-taker for West Indies accounting for 76 wickets in 85 T20I matches. He also has several years of experience playing T20 leagues across the globe. Be it Chennai Super Kings or St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Bravo would often take wickets and help the team win games on his own.

He is also famous for his dance moves after taking wickets and is a typical Caribbean player, who always used to play cricket with a smile on his face. Although he could not prolong his Test and ODI career for West Indies, there is no doubting Bravo’s class in the shortest format.
