England throughout their India tour have been good but not good enough. In the Test series, they scored in excess of 400 runs twice in the first innings and ended up losing both the games. In the ODI series, they have scored a total of 716 runs in two games and yet have lost both the ties. England opener Jason Roy thinks the same and ahead of the last ODI of the series.

Talking to the media at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, on the eve of the game he said, “We got 350 in the first game and 366 in the second game and lost both of them but the positives to come out of that are amazing.” Roy also talked about the Champions Trophy which commences in June of this year and will be played in England, he was of the opinion that every game from here on will be a step towards the ICC event.

“We want to finish on a high and every game between now and the Champions Trophy is a stepping block for us towards that huge competition. We’ve got a huge amount of positives to take from the last two games and although we got outplayed we put in some serious performances,”

England returns to the Eden Gardens for the first time after their World T20 final loss against the West Indies. The inventors of the game lost the match in the last over when Ben Stokes was heaved away for four straight sixes by Carlos Brathwaite. “Coming back here brings a mixed bag really. Obviously being in the final was incredible but there was disappointment after the game,” Roy said.

England are yet to win a game in India on this tour, they have come very close but have lacked that extra bit. The smashing English opener even touched on this and added, “It’s good to be back even though it’s frustrating it’s a dead rubber. We feel we’ve got to make our mark on India a bit.”

“As a squad we definitely are more experienced now, we’ve got a lot under our belts and a lot of good performances, good series wins, but it’s just disappointing about this series to be honest,” he said.

The visitors will look to break their losing streak and end the series on a winning note and head into the T20 series. The T20s start right after the ODI series on January 26 at Kanpur. England will try their best to win their first game and go into the T20I series with some confidence.
