The Indian team management is once again facing criticism for its selection policies after dropping Suryakumar Yadav from the playing eleven for the ongoing third T20I against England. Last month, the right-handed batsman earned his maiden India call-up for the five-match series. Surya earned the call after several setbacks and snubs from the national selectors.

Very few batsmen have performed as well as him in the domestic circuit in the last 3-4 years. He has also proved his class by doing extremely well with the bat in the last three seasons of the IPL. In the 2019/20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Surya had scored 392 runs at a strike rate of 168 and averaged 113 from four innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy tournament.

Due to his performances, he was being widely backed to earn a call-up for the home series against Sri Lanka and Australia in January 2020. However, the selectors decided against it. Suryakumar Yadav, however, kept working hard and had another impressive campaign in IPL 2020. After scoring 512 and 424 runs in the 2018 and 2019 editions, the Mumbai star scored 480 runs in IPL 2020 to help Mumbai Indians win a record fifth IPL title.

But there was more setback in store for him as he was unexpectedly ignored by the selectors once again for the tour of Australia. The selectors finally rewarded him for his consistent performance with the bat by naming him in the T20I squad for the ongoing series.

Fans slam team-management for dropping Suryakumar Yadav

The script is not really unfolding in the manner Suryakumar Yadav would have expected when he joined Team India. He made his debut in the second game but did not get a chance to bat as the hosts won the game by seven wickets. Another debutant Ishan Kishan stole the show in the game by scoring 56 off just 32 balls.

And to everyone’s surprise, the team-management dropped Suryakumar from the playing eleven for the third T20I to make room for returning Rohit Sharma. KL Rahul was widely expected to make way for Rohit after failing to impress in the first two games but the team-management decided to drop Suryakumar. Unsurprisingly, the fans are not impressed with the call and took to Twitter to criticise the decision.
