One of the greatest leg-spinners to have graced the game of cricket, Australian legend Shane Warne on Monday questioned the recent controversies surrounding the men’s team and also stated what was Cricket Australia doing in terms of men’s cricket? Warne has always been someone who doesn’t hold back his words. He also hinted at a possible cover-up of Sandpaper Gate.

Warne’s harsh criticism against Cricket Australia came after his former teammate Justin langer resigned as the head coach of the men’s senior team. This came after there were rumors regarding the fact that a lot of senior players didn’t like Langer’s disciplinarian approach. His tenure was supposed to end in June 2022. However, Langer was offered a short-term six-month contract extension, which he declined thereby ending his tenure having led the Australian men’s team to victory in the World T20 last year and the Ashes earlier this year.

“To treat the head coach the way they have, it’s an absolute disgrace what they’ve done,” Warne said on the Follow-On podcast.

“All of us who have played with Justin, we are not coming out because he’s our friend or a great cricketer or a Hall of Famer. We are coming out because it’s the treatment of the coach.

“Forget it’s Justin Langer. It’s just the treatment of Cricket Australia and the way they have handled the coach of the Australian cricket team. It’s been pathetic.” he further added.

Warne also hinted at a possible Sandpapergate cover-up. The Sandpapergate in 2018 was one of the darkest days in Australian cricket after Colin Bancroft was found using Sandpaper to alter the condition of the ball to get more reverse swing in Cape Town during the series against South Africa. Speaking about it, Warne said:

“We still don’t know the truth about what actually happened at Sandpapergate. Does Cricket Australia know the truth? Do they? Do the same people know the truth about Sandpapergate? Are they hiding anything?

“We’ve seen that the bowling cartel, as they call themselves, or ‘Winx’ and ‘GOAT’ and all these unbelievable nicknames they have for themselves. These guys wrote a letter saying they had no knowledge of whatever went on. That might be correct. But if it’s not and they’ve done that, there are all sorts of whispers or rumors that we all have heard. And one day the truth will come out.”

Warne said: “Does Cricket Australia know the truth? Is it the truth that we’ve heard? Why should Smith and Warner be the only two? Who knows. But the truth will come out.

“If Cricket Australia are hiding something again after Justin Langer, Tim Paine, we could go on about all the controversies that Cricket Australia has just bungled, messed up, and handled completely wrong.

“They knew about Tim Paine and still allowed him to captain Australia and swept it under the carpet. When someone found out they just threw him under the bus. What is this organization doing?” he added.
