A team of para-athletes came up with a new start-up in May last year to look into the problems a disabled athlete faces in India.

The sole purpose of Divyaang Myithri Sports Academy is to motivate disabled people to take-up Sports at a young age and also support the qualified para-athletes in achieving their goal by offering training, infrastructure, specialized coaches, and equipments. Also, financial assistance will be offered to the athletes to participate in National and International events and Paralympics ultimately.

The start-up, which aims to bring glory to India, will be hosting a wheelchair cricket tournament on 29th and 30th of April in the Karnataka capital.

The tournament will be a very competitive one, with the leather ball and matting pitch. One day matches during the league stage will be played for 12 overs and the Final match will be of 20 overs each side. The states which have confirmed their participation are Karnataka, UP, Delhi, and Tamil Nadu.

However, this is not the first organization to look after the needs of physically challenged cricketers.

All India Cricket Association for the Physically Challenged, a registered non-governmental organization also contributes to the realization of such skills. It has helped many handicapped people to display the cricket, increasing their motivation and confidence.

“Let us switch off our computers for a while and move over to the cricket field. ‘Dare to be different’ for cricket is a team sport and great fun! I urge you to work diligently, face difficulties with optimism and always strive to do your best,” said Sachin Tendulkar on the AICPC.

Recently, India winning the Blind World Cup in Bengaluru only a few weeks ago was another huge achievement, and a ray of hope, and confidence, for all those who curb their dream of pursuing sports due to physical barriers.
