Bangladesh and Australia are set to lock horns in a five-match T20I series. The opening game is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 2 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

The hosts recently beat Zimbabwe in the three-match T20I series and must be pretty high on confidence. For the upcoming series, the Tigers won’t have Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das, two of their prominent openers.

But Soumya Sarkar and Naim Sheikh played well against Zimbabwe in their absence. Ahead of the series, it’s pertinent to note that Bangladesh have lost all their four T20Is against Australia.

The Aussies aren’t in the best of forms as far as the T20 format is concerned. West Indies defeated them 4-1. In the meantime, the upcoming game is expected to be a competitive one.

The average score at the venue is 150 with the teams batting first and the chasing teams winning 22 games each. The Tigers have a decent record in Mirpur across formats.

Keeping in mind the conditions, the Tigers may include Taijul Islam in their eleven to partner Shakib Al Hasan. The likes of Saikat, Afif and Mahedi are effective with their off-spin as well. Shamim Hossain played some blinders in Zimbabwe and he will be looking to carry his form. The onus also is on the likes of Soumya and Naim to take the team off to flying starts in the opening game of the series.

Predicted XI

Mitchell Marsh was the leading run-scorer in the West Indies T20Is, scoring as many as three half-centuries. He also picked up seven wickets in the series with the best figures of a three-wicket haul. In the absence of Aaron Finch, it will be interesting to see how Matthew Wade leads the team. In favourable conditions, the visitors may give Ashton Agar a chance to partner with leg-spinner Adam Zampa.
