West Indies and Australia are all geared up to face each other in the five-match T20I series. The opening game is scheduled to take place on Friday, July 9 at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia.

The hosts recently lost their T20I series against South Africa by 2-3. After the defeat, Kieron Pollard, the Caribbean skipper, stated that it’s tough for his team to work miracles overnight. West Indies are currently ranked ninth in ICC’s rankings for T20I teams.

The Aussies, captained by Aaron Finch, are positioned fifth and seem to have the upper hand before the series. Prior to the games, Justin Langer, their head coach, talked about the 7-4 model, meaning that they would go with four specialist bowlers and seven batters.

In the meantime, more often than not, the track in St Lucia has been a sporting one, historically, and a competitive match can be expected.

Playing combination for WI vs AUS

West Indies

Evin Lewis was the standout batter for the West Indies in the South Africa T20Is. He should be opening the batting alongside Lendl Simmons. Chris Gayle looked a tad off-colour with the bat and he’d want to get his rhythm back.

The Universe Boss did a reasonable job with his slow off-breaks. The home team has a power-packed middle order with the likes of Hetmyer, Pooran, and Russell in it.

Dwayne Bravo was exceptional in the previous T20I series and the onus will be on him to get wickets. Obed McCoy got some crucial wickets and he is likely to be partnered by Fidel Edwards.

Predicted XI

Lendl Simmons, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Kieron Pollard (C), Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Fabian Allen, Fidel Edwards, Obed McCoy

Bench: Andre Fletcher, Hayden Walsh Jr, Akeal Hosein, Oshane Thomas, Jason Holder, Sheldon Cottrell, Kevin Sinclair

Australia

Matthew Wade and Aaron Finch are likely to open the batting for the visiting team. Mitchell Marsh will be batting at number three and he might also be needed with the ball in hand.

Josh Philippe was excellent in the warm-up match and including him may do the track for Australia in the opening game. The West Indies batters strained against the South Africa spin bowlers.

Hence, the Aussies might include both Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar in the playing eleven. Mitchell Starc is three wickets short of getting 50 T20I wickets and the speedster would be looking to accomplish the milestone in the next game itself.

Predicted XI

Aaron Finch (C), Matthew Wade (wk), Mitchell Marsh, Josh Philippe, Ben McDermott, Moises Henriques/Ashton Agar, Daniel Christian, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood/Jason Behrendorff, Riley Meredith, Adam Zampa

Bench: Ashton Turner, Daniel Christian, Alex Carey, Wes Agar, Jason Behrendorff/Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Swepson, Andrew Tye, Moises Henriques/Ashton Agar
