West Indies needed a victory on Thursday to stay alive in the five-match T20I series against South Africa. And they came out all guns blazing to win the fourth match by 21 runs.

At the National Cricket Stadium, St George’s Grenada, Kieron Pollard, and Co showed their class to draw the equaliser. Pollard scored a 25-ball 51* after which Dwayne Bravo’s four-wicket haul blew the visitors away.

The fifth and final match of the series is set to take place on Saturday, July 3 at the same venue and an exciting match seems to be on the cards. The Proteas, somehow, will look to make a comeback after the defeat.

Their batting has been a tad jittery. Barring Quinton de Kock, none of the others have been able to make a mark. Even in the second and third T20I, it was the bowlers, who saved their day. The pitch is expected to be a sporting one and another closely-fought match can be expected in the decider.

Playing combination for WI vs SA

West Indies

West Indies are likely to stick with the opening combination of Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons. Lewis is currently the home team’s leading run-scorer with 126 runs at an average and strike rate of 31.50 and 163.63.

Simmons has also scored 69 runs thus far and has been able to give his team fast starts. Kieron Pollard got his rhythm back last time with a half-century in crisis. Andre Russell needs to be a little more consistent with bat and ball.

Fabian Allen has been impressive with his left-arm spinners and he has played some handy knocks as well. Dwayne Bravo and Obed McCoy will be key with the ball.

Predicted XI

Lendl Simmons, Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Kieron Pollard (C), Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo, Fabian Allen, Fidel Edwards, Obed McCoy

Bench: Andre Fletcher, Hayden Walsh Jr, Akeal Hosein, Oshane Thomas, Jason Holder, Sheldon Cottrell, Kevin Sinclair

South Africa

For the Proteas, De Kock has simply been outstanding. He has scored 195 runs from four matches at an average and strike rate of 48.75 and 141.30. He has almost notched 100 runs more than Rassie van der Dussen, who is placed second with 96 runs.

De Kock can’t afford to drop his guard by any means. The other batters have been a tad inconsistent. In bowling, Tabraiz Shamsi has done wonderfully well.

He has picked up six wickets and has bowled at a stupendous economy rate of 4.31. George Linde and Kagiso Rabada have picked five wickets each. Anrich Nortje hasn’t been the worst either.

Predicted XI

Quinton de Kock (wk), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma, Rassie van der Dussen, David Miller, George Linde, Lungi Ngidi, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Anrich Nortje

Bench: Janneman Malan, Bjorn Fortuin, Lizaad Williams, Kyle Verreynne, Andile Phehlukwayo, Sisanda Magala, Wiaan Mulder, Heinrich Klaasen
