West Indies Women resumed from where they left in their T20I series against Pakistan Women. After slapping the visitors with a 3-0 whitewash, the Caribbean team showed their class in the opening ODI on Wednesday.
The hosts took a 1-0 lead with a resounding five-wicket victory. The home team’s skipper, Stafanie Taylor, led from the front and scripted her team’s win. She got a three-wicket haul and followed the spell up with an unbeaten century in the run-chase.
On the back of her stupendous knock, West Indies chased down the target of 206 with more than two overs to spare. For Pakistan, Nida Dar’s all-round show coupled with decent performances by the openers didn’t turn out enough.
The second ODI is set to be played on Friday, July 9 at the Coolidge Cricket Ground in Antigua and the visitors need a win to avoid a must-win scenario in each of their last three games.

West Indies Women
Hayley Matthews had an off day in the first game. Neither did she get a wicket, nor did she get enough runs with the bat. The Knight sisters- Kyshona and Kycia- couldn’t do much either.
The onus will again be on skipper Stafanie to be on top of her game and give West Indies a crucial 2-0 lead. Deandra Dottin hasn’t had the best of times of late and she’d be desperate to make a mark.
Anisa Mohammad picked two crucial wickets in the middle overs and a lot will depend on her. Shamilia Connell hit the right channels and also got one wicket, but Isaac and Selman need to pull their socks up.
Predicted XI
Hayley Matthews, Kyshona Knight, Kycia Knight (wk), Stafanie Taylor (C), Deandra Dottin, Chedean Nation, Britney Cooper, Caneisha Isaac, Anisa Mohammed, Shakera Selman, Shamilia Connell
Bench: Aaliya Alleyne, Karishma Ramharack
Pakistan Women
The openers- Muneeba Ali and Ayesha Zafar- made a steady start courtesy of a 70-run partnership off 16 overs. But they would be disappointed after not being able to convert their starts.
Javeria Khan’s dismal run on the tour continued as she failed to cross the single-digit mark in her innings. Dar held the innings together with a half-century. In the bowling department, Sadia Iqbal had a decent day as she bowled two maidens and gave away only 47 runs.
Baig, Sana, and Dar shared one wicket each. Leg-spin bowler Nashra Sandhu couldn’t pick up a wicket and she’d like to add some to her tally.
Predicted XI
Muneeba Ali, Ayesha Zafar, Javeria Khan (C), Omaima Sohail, Nida Dar, Aliya Riaz, Sidra Nawaz (wk), Diana Baig, Fatima Sana, Sadia Iqbal, Nashra Sandhu
Bench: Iram Javed, Anam Amin
