As if the life of a bowler isn’t difficult enough in the shorter (Read: Twenty20) and the shortest formats (Read: T10) of white-ball cricket, the matters get compounded to the hilt when he/she takes a wicket only to find out that he/she has overstepped the popping crease. It is the biggest tragedy for not only him but also for his side; not only does the bowler loses the wicket against his name but is penalized with bowling a free-hit as the very next delivery.

Time and again, we have seen bowlers go over the top in their celebrations after ‘taking’ the wicket, only to find much to his embarrassment that it no longer holds. Who can forget the ignominy Varun Aaron had to go through when he overtly celebrated after bamboozling David Warner’s stumps during the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, only to see the southpaw get recalled courtesy the Jharkhand’s bowlers overstepping that dreaded line.

A similar sort of thing happened with Peter Trego during the third Playoff encounter between Bangla Tigers and Qalandars in the concluded Abu Dhabi T10 League. After having scored 23 off 18 balls to help Qalandars post 3/109 after 10 overs, Trego needed to defend seven runs in the last over. Trego looked on course to defend it when he dismissed Colin Ingram off his second ball. And, when he cleaned up Robie Frylinck, Trego, started to celebrate, only to find out that it was free-hit.

Peter Trego celebrates the wicket off a no-ball; Tom Banton trolls him on Twitter

Tom Banton- the latest T20 superstar- wasn’t going to let the chance to troll Peter Trego. And the swashbuckling Somerset and English batsman did just that when he posted the video of the same with the caption, “When you forget it’s a NO BALL @tregs140 @T10League @QalandarsT10 #TREGOOOO,”

Coming back to the game, skipper Thisara Perera made the most of the opportunity as he sealed the game on the very next ball with a thumping six to ensure the Bangla Tigers finish on the third spot in the tournament which was eventually won by the Maratha Arabians courtesy Bravo’s 2/16 and Chadwick Walton’s whirlwind 26-ball 51*.
