Preparations for the Independence Cup, where the ICC World XI represented by seven different countries of the world will be touring Pakistan, are in full swing. The visitors have started preparations for the tour of Pakistan with a two-day camp at Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium. The broadcasters for the historic tournament have also been announced today.

In case you didn’t know…

The visitors will be led by South African T20 skipper Faf Du Plessis, and also include his compatriots Hashim Amla, David Miller and Imran Tahir. Samuel Badree and Darren Sammy from West Indies, George Bailey, Ben Cutting and Tim Paine from Australia will be some of the other leading players who will be part of the squad. Paul Collingwood, Tamim Iqbal, Grant Elliott and Thisara Perera will be the other members who will be part of the squad. The team will be coached by former Zimbabwe star Andy Flower.

The World XI squad will be arriving in Lahore on September 11, 2017. While on the other hand, the Pakistan team have also begun preparations for the historic tour at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The series opener will take place on 12th September.

Except for a short tour of Zimbabwe in 2015, Pakistan hasn’t hosted international cricket on its soil since the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in March 2009. They have been forced to stage their home matches at the United Arab Emirates, depriving them of the crucial home advantage. The series against World XI will be followed by tours from the Windies and the Lankans later. In all probability, this could be the end of the eight-year drought of international cricket in Pakistan.
