Why was Virat Kohli distraught after getting first-ball duck?

It has been an average season so far for RCB. Languishing towards the bottom of the table, RCB desperately needed to get a win against heavyweights KKR. They did a fantastic job of restricting the team in purple to 131 and an RCB win looked on the cards.

One of the most daunting opening combinations in the history of T20 cricket: Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli walked out to open the innings. Gautam Gambhir knew that he needed early wickets to keep them alive in the game and he himself stood at Short-Leg. He placed two slips for Virat Kohli and the Indian captain went after a wide one, only to edge it to the second slipper: Manish Pandey, who took the catch in the second attempt.

Kohli looked distraught and immediately pointed out to the umpire about the movement behind the screen. He smashed his bat hard onto his own pads as he walked off the ground. Surely, there was something which distracted Kohli as Coulter-Nile ran into bowl.

He was not finished. The moment he went to the dug-out he called for the fourth umpire and asked him to sort the movement behind the screen. After a few seconds, Kohli went away from the cameras, probably to vent out his frustration away from the limelight.

Two balls later, Gayle too pulled out the last second and gestured towards the same spot. There must be some distraction behind the screen which would have caught the attention of Kohli, who got his first duck in this year’s IPL.

The movement behind the screen needs to be strictly monitored as it holds up the game.

Eventually, KKR ended the game with an 82-run victory. RCB recorded the lowest ever IPL total of 49.
