It was a day of rain breaks where the St Lucia crowd witnessed three interruptions. The hosts Windies managed to add just 116 runs on the board to their overnight’s score of 2/0. On a frustrating second day, Sri Lankan bowlers Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara were the successful ones for the visitors with one wicket each.

The comeback man Devon Smith failed to make an impact in the first Test but came to Windies rescue in the first innings of the second Test as he went on to register an unbeaten half-century on the rain-hit day at the Darren Sammy international cricket stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia. Starting the day at 2/0, Windies added another 116 runs for the loss of two wickets at the end of second day’s play.

On the first day’s play, Sri Lanka opted to bat first after winning the toss. Dinesh Chandimal was the lone-scorer for Sri Lanka as he went on to post a decent score for his side. Chandimal scored a century where other batsmen failed to create the impact for their side. Kusal Mendis with 45 runs was their second highest run-scorer in the first innings.

For Windies, Shannon Gabriel and Kemar Roach picked 9 wickets between themselves, Holder picking the other. Miguel Cummins, Devendra Bishoo, and Roston Chase went wicketless. On Day 2’s play, Windies lost Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell for 22 and 27 runs respectively. Shai Hope with two runs is at the crease with Devon Smith.

With Day 3 coming up, Windies will look to add more than 300 runs on the board and pile up the Lankans agony. Devon Smith will aim to bring up a century in his comeback series. However, Lankan bowlers are in sight of picking another 8 wickets for less than the trailed score of 135 runs. However, Windies look favorites to add lead on the board.

Brief Scores:

Sri Lanka – 253 for 10 wickets (Dinesh Chandimal – 119, Shannon Gabriel – 5/59)

Windies – 118 for 2 wickets (Devon Smith – 53*, Kasun Rajita – 1/25)

Windies trail by 135 runs
