The richest cricketing body BCCI and ICC might once again find themselves in a tussle when the sides sit for ICC Board meetings in Kolkata on Wednesday and Thursday. As per the details, the ICC is planning to get rid of the 2021 edition of ChampionsTrophy which is set to be played in India. ICC is planning the replace the mini world cup with a World T20 event.

Notably, ICC conclave had suggested that idea of doing away with the Champions Trophy last year in Auckland. However, BCCI had sternly opposed the idea which they are set to do once again sighting the financial loses which they will face in the case the Champions Trophy gets replaced with World T20 event.

Anirudh Chaudhry, the BCCI treasurer said that if ICC scraps the tournament, stakeholders involved with BCCI will have to cope up a loss of approximately $30 million. “It is now learned that there is a proposal to replace the Champions Trophy tournament scheduled in 2021 by a World T20 event. This might cause a loss of about $30 million to the BCCI and its stakeholders,” said Chaudhry while speaking to Indian Express.

ICC’s attitude towards Indian body not correct

Chaudhry questioned the way ICC has treated the Indian board. He felt that while ICC wants the Indian money but keeps ignoring the board’s interest. “It appears that the morality of the ICC excludes India’s interests but includes India’s money. It also appears that the true intent and the optics of the intent also differ greatly,” said Chaudhry.

According to Chaudhry, the BCCI will first take care of the cricket in India and then only can look into the other aspects. “How can we, the BCCI, devalue the life of a child playing cricket in a remote district in India in order to add value to a life of someone playing cricket in Ireland or Pakistan. All life is valuable and as BCCI, it is our duty to do the best we can for those who play the game within our area of operation,” said Chaudhry through the example.
