With all the rumors of India planning to go with only one spinner in South Africa, Ravindra Jadeja has confirmed he’s not thinking much about it. Jadeja and Ashwin once again paired together brilliantly in the Second Test against Sri Lanka. The duo took seven wickets amongst them and this put the cat amongst the pigeons. They work wonderfully together, but on tracks which assist the fast bowlers a lot, it is difficult to comprehend them in the XI.

After a wonderful start to the Test match, Jadeja spoke to the press and revealed what he thinks about the future tours. When he was asked about his opinion if he was the captain, then who he would have chosen between him and Ashwin in the playing XI for the upcoming SA Test series.

“Yeh bhi koi puchne ki baat hain (Is this a question that you even need to ask?), his reply had everyone laughing. ” If I am the captain, I will not even give the ball to anyone (laughs). I will keep bowling from one end,” Jadeja said. He also said it’s important for their side to pick up all the 20 wickets in this game, regardless of how many bowlers they are playing with.

“I can only control the controllable. When I get an opportunity, I will try to do well. What is not in my control, there is no point thinking about it. When I get a chance to play in South Africa, I will try to do well. When I got a chance the last time, I played the second Test after Ashwin played the first. That’s why I said that teams combination will depend on the composition of the opposition,” the all-rounder added.

Satisfied with my performance today

The canny left-arm spinner was full of praises for his fast bowling partners Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav. Ishant Sharma especially made a remarkable comeback, picking up 3 crucial wickets, which includes the wickets of both the openers.

“There was a lot of help from the wicket there (Kolkata) so you guys must have felt that every ball will yield a wicket but that was not the case here because this wicket had grass but not the bounce or swing or the overcast conditions of Kolkata. That’s why we did not get much help but the two (Ishant and Yadav) bowled well in the first session.”

Talking about the different tactics Ashwin had applied to get those four wickets, he said it’s imperative to keep thinking uniquely to outsmart the batters. He also mentioned he was very happy with the way he bowled on a track which assisted the seamers pretty well,” He said.

“If there is nothing in the wicket for spinners, then its good to try something different. Over the wicket or round the wicket, just try and create chances. That’s what he was doing. I was very happy as to how I bowled today. There was no help from the wicket and I was looking to bowl in right areas,” He concluded.
