Pakistan’s newly-appointed bowling coach Shaun Tait has said that he is looking forward to bringing the best out of the pacers so that they can perform well under pressure. Giving special mention to pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi, Tait said that he is working hard on keeping the tall fast bowler physically and mentally fit.

Afridi had a dream 2021 where he showcased his mettle with the ball across all formats and was also honored with the ICC Cricketer of the Year award in January. The left-arm speedster took 78 wickets from 36 international matches in the year gone by and also played a huge role in Pakistan making into the semifinals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE.

“I received a warm welcome. Pakistan is full of fast bowling talent. I am excited to work with talented young pacers in Pakistan. I will try to prepare them physically and mentally to perform better under pressure,” said Shaun Tait in a press conference.

“Shaheen Shah Afridi is one the most dangerous bowlers when he is fit and in action with all his skills. I will try to prepare him physically and mentally for future challenges,” he added.

The ex-Australian pacer was named Pakistan’s bowling coach last month ahead of the ongoing all-format series against Australia. The Aussies are in the neighboring country for the first time after the 1998/99 season and currently locking horns with each other in a three-match Test series, which is tied at 0-0.

The visitors seemed to be in the driver’s seat in the second Test match at Karachi, but centuries from skipper Babar Azam and wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan ensured that the contest ended in a stalemate. The two teams will now face each other in the all-important third and final game at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore from March 21.
