Ronsford Beaton, the Windies fast bowler, has been reported for suspect bowling action during the second ODI against New Zealand in Christchurch. The visitors lost that match by a whopping 204 runs as they were bundled out for just 121 runs in the pursuit of 326-run target set by the hosts. Beaton too didn’t have a decent game as he conceded 60 runs and could pick only a solitary wicket in the eight overs he bowled. However, he will be allowed to bowl in the remainder of the series after which Beaton’s action would be examined.

As per the regulations of International Cricket Council regarding suspect bowling actions, the bowling action of Beaton will now further be examined. He will have to undergo the test within 14 days and the results of the test will determine if he will have to remodel his action. Windies, until then, are allowed to use his services and thereby he will play in the Boxing Day One-Day match on Monday (December 26).

Added concern for Windies

Windies have already lost the three-match series against the well-equipped Kiwis and will be playing for pride in the final game ahead of the T20Is. The news of the bowling action of Ronsford Beaton being reported comes as a jolt to their hopes of trying out a youngster in different conditions ahead of the World Cup qualifiers in Zimbabwe in March. Moreover, they have lost 15 of their last 21 One-Day Internationals.

The coach Stuart Law has already urged their players to not repeat the mistakes and is confident of the current lot. They missed Chris Gayle in the second game who was ill and also Kesrick Williams didn’t play due to the hamstring injury. Now although Beaton will play the third match, the reporting of his action will play on his minds which will eventually affect his performance. In the first two games of his ODI career, he has already conceded 102 runs in 17 overs picking just one wicket.
