After the West Indies batsmen thoroughly dominating on the first day of play, the Bangladesh bowlers have come back hard on the second day. The Bangla bowlers were very clinical with the areas where they bowled and didn’t let the Windies batsmen build on much from their overnight score.

West Indies lost 6 wickets for just 59 runs on the second day which is highly unacceptable and the Bangla bowlers have to be commended for the efforts. However, it was the batting which yet again ended up being a disappointment. Just like in the First Test, the Bangladesh side was bowled out cheaply for just 149 runs. No matter how much the bowlers excel, these kinds of performances with the bat never win you matches. Also, Windies did not enforce the follow-on this time around.

Bangladesh bowlers deserve an applause

Irrespective of how they performed on day-1, Bangladesh bowlers definitely deserve an applause. Not often do we see an opposition lose 6 wickets for just 59 runs in a Test match. West Indies continued to bat with an overnight score of 295/4. Moreover, two settled batsmen in the form of Shimron Hetmyer and Roston Chase were in the middle. The Windies team would have definitely eyed a much bigger total.

But, Abu Jayed and Mehidy Hasan had different plans. Jayed dismissed Hetmyer right in the third over of the day. He went on to dismiss Roston Chase and Shannon Gabriel as well. Mehidy chipped in with two wickets while Taijul Islam picked one wicket on the second day. However, skipper Jason Holder put up a good fight from one end. But he lacked support from the other batsmen. He remained not out on 33 as West Indies were bowled out for 354.

Dismal batting from Bangladesh batsmen as Jason Holder spitfires

The story with the Bangladesh batsmen is somewhat very similar to what we’ve seen in the First Test. They kept losing wickets in pairs and it is tough to recover when something of this sorts happens. They lost two wickets in the 7th over, two in 24th over and two in the 37th over. Tamim Iqbal with 47 runs was the highest scorer while skipper Shakib Al Hasan scored 32 runs. West Indies skipper Jason Holder was on fire and has picked 5 wickets in the innings. Gabriel and Keemo Paul picked two wickets each while Cummins picked one wicket.

West Indies decided not to enforce the follow-on and continued to bat in the third innings. In the nine overs they batted, they put 19 runs on the board. Also, Shakib Al Hasan managed to get rid of the dangerous Kraigg Brathwaite.

Brief Scores:

West Indies, 1st Innings: 354/10 in 112 overs (K Brathwaite 110, Shimron Hetmyer 86, Mehidy Hasan 5/93)

Bangladesh, 1st Innings: 149/10 in 46.1 overs (Tamim Iqbal 47, Shakib Al Hasan 32, Jason Holder 5/44)

West Indies, 2nd Innings: 19/1 in 9 overs (Devon Smith 8*, K Brathwaite 8, Shakib Al Hasan 1/0)

West Indies lead by 224 runs.
