Windies and England are currently involved in the five-match ODI series in the Caribbean islands. After two matches, the series is locked at 1-1 at the moment and the hosts are definitely giving their best facing the World’s best ODI side at the moment. With the third ODI set to be played on Friday, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the squad for the last two matches of the series.

Kemar Roach who was expected to get fit after the first couple of ODIs has been ruled out of the series. Andre Russell has returned to the set up which bolsters the batting for the Windies in what has been a high-scoring affair so far. The all-rounder has been troubled with the knee injury of late which might lead to him bowling less but his brutality with the willow is unmatched.

“We are well aware that although Andre’s bowling may be limited due to a knee problem, his tremendous batting ability to power the ball in the back end of the game will be an asset to the team. We believe Russell will add value to the squad,” the CWI selection chairman Courtney Browne said according to Windies Cricket’s official website.

Russell to play his first ODI since July 2018

Andre Russell last appeared in an ODI for Windies in July 2018 against Bangladesh and has been away from the team from different reasons. But with the World Cup coming soon, the all-rounder is making a comeback it seems and these two matches will give an exact idea about his fitness for the 50-over format. His inclusion will only increase England’s difficulty whose bowlers have been on the receiving end.

Meanwhile, no other changes have been made to the existing squad and all the 13 players have been retained by the selectors.

Windies squad for the fourth and fifth ODI: Chris Gayle, Darren Bravo, Devendra Bishoo, Ashley Nurse, Carlos Brathwaite, Jason Holder (c), John Campbell, Sheldon Cottrell, Shimron Hetmyer, Shai Hope (wk), Oshane Thomas, Nicholas Pooran, Fabian Allen, Andre Russell.
