India edged past Windies in the low-scoring first T20I as they completed the chase of 96 runs by losing six wickets and batting out 17.2 overs. Debutant Navdeep Saini starred with a 3-wicket haul in what was complete domination with the ball from India. The Windies could only post 95/9 in their 20 overs as Kieron Pollard scored 49-ball 49. India were racing in the chase when Rohit Sharma hit a couple of fours and a couple of maximums. However, his dismissal unsettled the chase but the short target didn’t put any pressure over the lower middle-order.

All the major stats and numbers recorded during a low-scoring first T20I in Lauderhill:

A record debut for Saini:

4Navdeep Saini is only the 4th player and the first Indian to deliver the 20th over as a maiden in T20I cricket. Jeetan Patel in the 2008 T20I against Windies and Mohammad Amir during the WT20 2010 game against Australia bowled maidens in the 20th overs.

Earlier in this July, Janak Prakash of Singapore also bowled the 20th over as a maiden when he faced Qatar in what was the team’s T20I debut.

2 – Saini picked up two wickets in his first over making him only the 2nd Indian to take two wickets in the opening over on T20I debut. Pragyan Ojha had two wickets to his name during his T20I debut against Bangladesh at the WT20 2009.

6 – Navdeep Saini is only the 6th Indian to receive player of the match award on T20I debut. The last of the previous five players to win the match award on T20I debut for India was Barinder Sran in the 2016 Zimbabwe series.

A rare double for Sundar

2Washington Sundar is only the 2nd player in this history of T20I cricket to have taken a wicket in the first over of the game and end up scoring the winning runs in the chase during the same match.

Mashrafe Mortaza achieved this rare double during the 2015 T20I against Zimbabwe. Both Mashrafe and Sundar finished off the chase with a maximum.

0 – Number of Indian players before Sundar who have bowled the first over of a T20I and later remained unbeaten during a successful chase of the same match.

Domination by Indian bowlers:

1 – For the first time in their T20I history, India dismissed both the opponent openers for a duck. Overall, this is the 15th such instance for any team and the 2nd for the Windies whose openers got out without scoring in the 2018 Mt Manganui T20I against New Zealand.

3 – As many as six different players picked up a wicket for India in this game; the joint-most number of players with a wicket in a T20I for India. Six bowlers picked up a wicket for India in the 2011 Durban T20I against South Africa and in the 2016 Asia Cup T20 match against UAE.

A T20I record under Kohli’s belt:

224 – Virat Kohli now has hit 224 fours in T20I cricket; the most by any other batsman. He went surpassed Tillakaratne Dilshan’s 223 fours with the lone four he hit during this innings.

A big scoreless win:

24 – Rohit Sharma’s 24-run knock is the highest individual score for India in this game. This is the first time India won a full 20-over T20I without any player scoring 30+. The previous lowest “highest individual” score in a T20I win for India was 30 in the 2016 WT20 game against Bangladesh.

Narine gets his bunny:

8Sunil Narine has dismissed Rohit Sharma on eight instances in Twenty20 format; the joint 2nd most any bowler has dismissed a particular batsman in this format. No Indian other than Rohit has dismissed as many times as eight times to any bowler in T20s.
