Winning the World Cup would be a fairy tale finish: Chris Gayle

The Universe Boss Chris Gayle has decided to hang his boots from One-Day International format after the upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. He is currently gearing up for the ODI series against England which will commence on February 20 and this will be the last time he will be playing on the Caribbean soil. Gayle, having decided to quit the fifty-over format, is now expecting a fairy-tale finish to his illustrious career in the World Cup.

Gayle, in a way, is making a comeback to the ODI side. He last played for Windies in the Maroon jersey in July 2018 against Bangladesh and then made himself unavailable for the next few series which also included the India tour in October. He was playing in the T20 leagues during this period and with World Cup only three months away, the 39-year-old decided to feature in the upcoming series against the World number 1 ODI side.

“Winning the World Cup would be a fairy-tale finish. The youngsters owe it to me to win. They have to do that for me and try and get me the trophy. I’ll be looking to put my input in as well,” Gayle was quoted as saying by India Today.

The body is feeling good

Speaking about his fitness, Chris Gayle stressed that he is still confident about tearing apart the bowlers and nothing has changed for him. The Universe Boss also went on to add that he is still enjoying the game to the hilt and is looking at the youngsters to match them in fitness.

“I’m in good condition. The body is feeling good and I’m pleased with that. I’ve lost a bit of weight and I don’t want to get too big. I’m still working on my six pack. I’m trying to keep up with the youngsters in the field who are like cats the way they chase the ball. I still have it in me and I’m still enjoying it,” Gayle further said.

As far as his ODI career is concerned, Chris Gayle is the owner of 9727 runs in 279 innings with 23 centuries to his name and his highest score is a mammoth 215.
