Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan turned 33 today. He has been regarded as one of the best left-arm fast bowlers the country has produced till date. His capabilities and all-round abilities helped him cement the spot of the seam-bowling all-rounder in the Indian team in the period of 2004-2008. He created that natural angle for a left-hander and swung the ball both ways, which troubled some of the best batsmen in international cricket.

On January 29, 2006, a young Irfan became only the second Indian to claim a hat-trick in a Test match. He achieved this feat against Pakistan at Karachi, that too in the very first over of the game. He was also adjudged the Player of the Match in the final of the World T20 2007 in South Africa for his match-winning spell, which helped the Men in Blue to lift the trophy. However, due to persistent injuries and dips in form, he lost his place from both Test and ODI squads, but he has been constantly working hard at the domestic level for Baroda.

Irfan last played for India in a T20I against South Africa in 2012 in Sri Lanka. After being out from the Indian side and having countered multiple injuries and other troubles, he has always kept his spirit for playing the game going. He was very impressive during the 2011-12 Ranji Trophy season, where he was the leading wicket-taker of the tournament. He is also currently working very hard on his fitness regimes and feels he still has it to represent the country again at the highest level.

“I would have loved to have more opportunities when I got injured after I took a five-wicket haul in my last ODI. I was out of the team not because of form but [only due to] injury. Once I got fit again, I would have loved to have a chance,” he said.

Here are some of the wishes from prominent cricketers and other members of the fraternity:
