Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL), the 50-over tournament of Australian women is currently up and the third match of the tournament saw absolute wrath of weather on December 19. The third match of the WNCL took place between New South Wales and Victorian women in Melbourne and the fierce weather interrupted the game which was then wrapped up in 35 during 2nd innings.
A soon as the dark weather set in, the groundsmen were quick enough to bring the covers but the wind was wild enough to cause an absolute disturbance. The situation demanded more people to put in the efforts for covers and players were seen running and helping the groundsmen to get the job done quickly.
“Absolute MAYHEM at the CitiPower Centre as the Melbourne weather sets in. Well done to players and ground staff on getting this cover down! #WNCL,” tweeted the official handle of the Victorian Cricket team.

The tournament started on the 17th of December and this was the third game of the series wherein Victorian women elected to field first. NSW women started off on a brilliant note wherein three half-centuries from their squad set them to put a challenging target. Skipper Alyssa Healy went cheaply without chipping in with any runs but the middle order was sturdy enough to push them to post good 300 runs on the board in 46 overs.
Tahlia Wilson smashed 54 off 51 while Ashleigh Gardner smashed 57 off 56 to put in another crucial fifty in the setup. Phoebe Litchfield’s 88 of 72 turned out to be the brightest spot in their setup. Chasing up the target, not many shouldered responsibilities from the Victorian squad but it was the skipper Ellyse Perry yet again who led from the front. She smashed a brilliant century (120 off 94) to push them to post 229 runs while they were set for a target of 256 runs in 35 overs.
Even though Victorian women lost the match by 26 runs, Perry was declared as the player of the match for her sheer heroics.
