Saturday morning and afternoon witnessed some competitive action in the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2019. Both the games played were lost by the teams chasing. In both games, the bowlers gave some enthralling performances in order to make their sides get over the finishing line.

The first game of the day was quite competitive and in that match, the league toppers Brisbane Heat’s batting line up got collapsed in front of Sydney Thunder. A joint effort coming from the bowlers of Rachael Haynes and Co. helped the team to stop Brisbane at a meager score of 128 runs in 20 overs.

The climax of the game came towards the second half of the game when the bowlers of Kirby Short and Co. helped them to make a strong comeback in the match. It was a difficult task to defend a small total on the track of Drummoyne Oval in Sydney. But, a brilliant spell bowled by Jess Jonassen, who took a total of four wickets in her quota of 4 overs at a low economy of 3.25 helped her team to cross the finishing lin.

In the second game, Melbourne Stars won the toss and opted to bowl. However, their decision went against them when the batters of Adelaide Strikers outclassed their bowlers with sheer dominance. A partnership for the third wicket of 101 runs between Sophie Devine (77 runs off 58 balls) and Bridget Patterson (41 runs off 29 balls) helped the Stars in order to post a competitive total in front of the opposition team.

However, it was only right-arm medium pacer Holly Ferling from Stars, who turned out to be the best bowler of the team and bowled at a brilliant economy of 3.67. Also, she took an important wicket of Suzie Bates, the skipper of Adelaide Strikers.

During the chase, Melbourne Stars batting line-up yet again failed to score runs and ended up facing their eighth defeat of the season. They lost the game by 57 runs, with their team scoring just 98 runs at the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs. The match went great for Sophie Devine, who after scoring brilliant fifty, also took three important wickets of the Elyse Villani and Co. She was well partnered by Tahlia McGrath from the other end, who recorded the bowling figures of 2/19.
