Velocity made an incredible start to their Women’s T20 Challenge campaign as the Mithali Raj-captained team beat the Trailblazers by three wickets. Their bowlers delivered and despite a bit of a stutter during the run-chase, Velocity came out trumps with 12 balls to spare. The thumping victory took them to the top of the points table and now have a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.678.

Mithali’s troops will now face the Supernovas in the last game tomorrow at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. With the Trailblazers and Velocity having one victory each, the Supernovas, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, have to win the encounter in order to qualify for the final. Moreover, they also need to make sure that they win by a margin and get their NRR among the top two teams.

Pitch Report

The pitch at the venue has been a tad on the slow side and the spinners have dominated. Run scoring has been tough to some extent and one needs to depend on rotating the strike in order to get the scoreboard moving.

Weather Conditions

The temperature during the encounter will be between 33 degree Celsius and 36 degree Celsius. The humidity will be low with the numbers below the 20-per cent mark. Dew won’t be there even in the second half of the contest.

Team Combination

Supernovas

Lea Tahuhu bowled only one over in the last match and she also got out for a golden duck. Hence, the Supernovas may replace her with fellow pacer Mansi Joshi. Chamari Athapaththu got 26 but took 34 balls. She’ll be looking to accelerate a bit more. The likes of Priya Punia and Natalie Sciver will want to make amends after getting out cheaply. Sciver also couldn’t pick up a wicket.

Probable XI

Priya Punia, Chamari Athapaththu, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur (C), Natalie Sciver, Sophie Devine, Lea Tahuhu/Mansi Joshi, Taniya Bhatia (WK), Anuja Patil, Poonam Yadav, Radha Yadav

Velocity

Velocity won’t want to make any changes to the eleven. Shefali Verma and Danielle Wyatt were stupendous, having scored 34 and 46 respectively. However, the rest of their batting looked a tad jittery. With two runs needed, they lost five wickets. As far as their bowling lineup is concerned, the spinners- Ekta Bisht and Amelia Kerr performed and they will be needed to step up as well.

Probable XI

Hayley Matthews, Shefali Verma, Danielle Wyatt, Mithali Raj (C), Veda Krishnamurthy, Sushma Verma (WK), Amelia Kerr, Shikha Verma, Sushree Pradhan, Komal Zanzad, Ekta Bisht

Probable Top Performers

Jemimah Rodrigues- Supernovas

The youngster has been scoring runs for India pretty consistently. She was looking ominous the other day as she romped her way to 24 off 19 with four boundaries. She was also involved in a 49-run partnership with Athapaththu. Unfortunately, she got run out at a crucial juncture. She’ll be keen to get a substantial score under her belt in the crunch encounter.

Danielle Wyatt- Velocity

In T20 Internationals, Wyatt has an average of 20.29. However, the average shoots up to 29.53 while playing in India. The numbers show that she understands the sub-continent conditions. That was also on display last time when she churned out a match-winning knock of 46 runs from 35 balls. The Velocity will be looking up to the English batswomen for another quickfire knock.
