Heavy showers during the Match 23 of ICC Women’s World Cup played between South Africa and West Indies at the Basin Reserve, Wellington ensured that the match had to be abandoned. As a result, both teams received one point each to their name. With nine points under their belt, South Africa became the second team to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals after Australia. In the second match of the day, Pakistan were no match for the defending champions, as England went on to win the contest comfortably and keep their hopes alive for the semi-finals berth.
Talking about the game between South Africa and West Indies, skipper Stafanie Taylor after winning the toss invited Africa to bat first. To note, the match was curtailed to 26-over-per-side due to rain. Pacer Chinelle Henry wreak havoc on the Proteas as she scalped three crucial wickets of Laura Wolvaardt, Tazmin Brits and skipper Sune Luus. Pacer Shamilia Connell also took one wicket reducing the batting side to 25/4. Batter Mignon du Preez helped her side to recover from the early losses as she took the score from 25/4 to 61/4 in 10.5 overs.
However, the rain interrupted the match again and later it was abandoned due to the time lost. As a result, both Africa and West Indies shared one point each. South Africa are currently sitting in second place on the point tables with nine points, while West Indies are placed third with seven points in their seven matches.
