India and Pakistan begin their respective World Cup campaigns by facing each other in a high-voltage clash in the Women’s World Cup on March 6, 2022, at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. Mithali Raj takes on her counterpart Bismah Maroof in the fourth match of the twelfth edition of the Women’s World Cup. Both teams have never lifted the elusive trophy in any of the past 11 editions.

India have managed to reach the finals twice in the year 2005 and 2017 but never went the distance.  On the other hand, Pakistan team has never qualified for the final in the history of the marquee tournament. Notably, they have contested in just four editions of World Cup history. Mithali Raj’s team India fell agonizingly short by just nine runs in the last World Cup final against the hosts England in 2017.

In terms of head-to-head records, the Women in Blue have completely dominated the Women in Green. Both have squared off in ten ODIs so far and India has won all ten of them. Talking about the recent form, the drubbing of 4-1 from the hands of hosts New Zealand in New Zealand a few days back could worry captain Mithali. In the three-match ODI series, Pakistan women also lost 3-0 to West Indies Women back in November 2021.
