Four days after the end of the league stages, the semifinal games of the Women’s World T20 were set to take place on Thursday. While it was Australia against Windies in the first encounter, India faced England in the other. The defending champions, Windies, had a teary exit to the tournament after they were decimated by the Aussies. Alyssa Healy was the ‘Player of the Match’ for the fourth time in the tournament as her team was the first to enter the final.

In the second semifinal, India crashed out of the tournament after an extremely disappointing show. N Sciver and A Jones did the job for the Brits under pressure to bag an 8-wicket win. The final between Australia Women and England Women will be played on Sunday.

Australia Women vs Windies Women – 1st Semifinal

This match ended up being a shocker for the home team after they won the toss and opted to bowl first. Alyssa Healy and Meg Lanning combined forces to help Australia put up a good total on the board. Healy carried on with her impressive run after missing out on batting due to an injury in the previous game. A quickfire 25 from Rachael Haynes helped them finish with 142 runs on the board.

Except for Stefanie Taylor, no one else for the Windies lineup managed to even get the 10-run mark. Taylor, who scored 16 runs didn’t find any kind of support from the other end. The Australian bowlers were highly clinical with Elysse Perry being the standout bowler. She returned with figures of 2/2 in 2 overs as her team won the match by a very convincing 71 runs.

Brief Scores:

AUS-W: 142/5 in 20 overs (Alyssa Healy 46, Meg Lanning 31, Stefanie Taylor 1/20)

WI-W: 71/10 in 17.3 overs (Stefanie Taylor 16, Chinelle Henry 8, Elysse Perry 2/2)

Result: Australia Women won by 71 runs.

India Women vs England Women – 2nd Semifinal

India decided to drop Mithali Raj for this crucial encounter and chose to bat first after winning the toss. Smriti Mandhana provided the side with an excellent start with a 23-ball 34. India was going at over a run rate of six till the 14th over before Jemimah Rodrigues was run out for 26. Then started the disastrous collapse. From 89/2, the batters fell like dominoes and were bowled out for 112 within the next five overs which was a huge disappointment.

This collapse proved to be rather costly for the team. Although the English openers fell early, A Jones and N Sciver took the onus upon themselves to get the team into a good position. Riding off unbeaten half-centuries from both of them, England raced to an 8-wicket win and will now face Australia in the final.

Brief Scores:

IND-W: 112/10 in 19.3 overs (Smriti Mandhana 34, Jemimah Rodrigues 26, Heather Knight 3/9)

ENG-W: 116/2 in 17.1 overs (N Sciver 54*, A Jones 51*, Radha Yadav 1/20)

Result: England Women won by 8 wickets.
