Pakistan failed to break the World Cup jinx against India on Sunday and went down by 89 runs via DLS method at the Old Trafford in Manchester. It was a bad day at the office for them with their bowlers conceding 336 runs first despite getting favourable conditions to bowl early on. The batsmen too failed to make amends and could only reach 212 runs in 40 overs in a shortened game in the end only to attract ire of their supporters.

What irked the fans was the lack of fight from the team as the game looked over soon after the collapse which saw Pakistan losing 4 wickets for just 12 runs in the middle overs. Though Imad Wasim and Sarfaraz Ahmed stitched a partnership then, they never looked like going for a victory. Even on the field, the players allowed the Indian batsmen to take easy singles and there were quite a few fumbles.

Moreover, KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma were involved in a mix-up twice during their 136-run partnership. But on both occasions, Pakistan lacked game awareness and they failed to latch on to the opportunities. No wonder, the passionate fans were angry on the team for not giving their 100% in an all-important game against the arch-rivals.

Angry fans demand for Malik’s exclusion

After the match ended, the Pakistan players came on the ground to shake hands and while returning to the dressing room, the angry fans lashed out at them. The video of the same is going viral on social media in which it could be heard that the fans are demanding for Shoaib Malik‘s exclusion from the team. The veteran who is set to retire from the game after the World Cup endured a tough outing as he bagged a golden duck.

He hasn’t done much in the quadrennial event and clearly, the fans aren’t impressed. Even the other players had to cop a severe criticism and one can understand their frustration. Nevertheless, Pakistan still have a chance to go through to the semi-finals and they will have to win all their remaining four matches.
