The 2019 World Cup kicks off as hosts England take on South Africa at Kennington Oval, London on 30th May. England is considered as one of the favourites of the tournament with the home advantage. Here is all you need to read for both the teams before picking your Fantain XI.

Team News:

England

England is currently ranked as the number 1 ODI side in the world. If the warm-up matches are anything to go by, the team should be worried because they lost to Australia by 12 runs; unable to get to the target of 297. The take away from that match is that they need to work on their partnerships.

The win against Afghanistan was a breeze. Runner-ups three times, England would love to win their first ever World Cup in their own backyard.

Squad: Eoin Morgan (C), Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Jos Buttler (wk), Tom Curran, Joe Denly, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, Jofra Archer

South Africa

Another team that is yet to conquer Mount World Cup is South Africa. Steyn has now been ruled out of the first match against England as he is yet to recover from his injury. The team has sufficient powerhouses in the team to make up for his absence.

South Africa beat Sri Lanka ( a team that has been out of form for a long time now ) by 87 runs. A brilliant batting performance took the team’s total to 338. Andile took 4 wickets.

Playing against the home team, the current number one team is a whole new ball game altogether.  The match against West Indies was abandoned.

Squad: Faf du Plessis (C), Hashim Amla, Quinton de Kock (wk), JP Duminy, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Chris Morris, Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dale Steyn, Imran Tahir, Rassie van der Dussen.

Top Picks

Jason Roy: A key player in any lineup, Roys’s unflinching commitment takes him up several notches. He has the skill to play under any conditions.

Hashim Amla: 27 ODI centuries and a decade of experience makes Amla one of the most valuable players at the 2019 world cup.

Lungi Ngidi: He has made it his personal goal to help his team win the cup. That makes him a dangerous player to any side at the world cup this year.

Jos Buttler: A destructive batsman, he can destroy the morale of any bowler with his big shots. He comes down the lineup and has the ability to hit from the word go.

Jofra Archer: A late addition to the team, Archer is likely to open the bowling for his team.
